BA Cougars welcome Cenla

The Brookhaven Academy Cougars host the Cenla Christian Lions ofPineville, La. Friday night at R.M. “Red” Stuard Field in thesecond round of the MAIS Class AA state football playoffs. The gamebegins at 7 p.m.

Brookhaven Academy (11-1) eliminated Adams County Christian School52-28 last week. Cenla Christian (8-3) escaped Central Private witha 16-6 victory.

In the other South AA playoff games Friday night, River Oaks Schoolprovided a 35-0 shutout over Central Hinds. Centreville Academycrushed Bowling Green 34-7. Centreville Academy travels to faceRiver Oaks School.

In the North AA games, North Delta School visit Simpson Academy andWinston Academy entertains Leake Academy.

Cougars head football coach Herbert Davis has studied film on theLions and passed on this report.

“Cenla is the surprising program coming in,” said Davis. “They havea running back, No. 5 (Dar’Tavies Green), who leads the rushingcategory in MAIS AA football.” Green (5-8, 180) is a senior.

“We have to step up to the challenge and not overlook Cenla,”continued Davis. “They fought hard to get here and they will beready to play. So we need to be ready as well if we want to move onin the playoffs.”

Starting on offense for the Cougars at quarterback is ChandlerRogers. Running back is Landon Nettles. Wide receivers areChristian Keene and Sidney Chaffin. Other receivers are MarkRushing and Jennings Mills

On the line, the right tackle is Caleb Dunaway. Right guard is KenBritt and the center is Hunter Franklin or Colby Culbertson. Theleft guard is Cameron Barry and the left tackle is Alan MichaelAllred.

The starting BA defense includes C. J. Duckworth, Franklin andCulbertson at end and Barry and Britt at tackle. Cody Henley,Bailey Hodge and Allred at linebackers. In the secondary are JeffRushing, Mark Rushing, Gage Posey, Keene and Mills.

In the win over ACCS, freshman running back Landon Nettles led BA’soffense, picking up 144 yards on 16 carries with three touchdowns.Rogers completed 9 of his 15 pass attempts for 141 yards and twotouchdowns. He added 60 yards on 9 carries with another touchdownon the ground. Bubba Keene was the leading receiver, hauling in 4passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns.

On defense, Allred led the Cougars with 11 tackles and a fumblerecovery. Bailey Hodge added 9 stops in support. C.J. Duckworth,Jeff Rushing, and Hayden Hux each added 7 tackles.
