County man dies in Tues. accident

A late-afternoon one-vehicle accident claimed the life of aLincoln County man on Cade Lane, officials said Tuesdayevening.
Lincoln County Deputy Coroner John Hart said Kevin Humphrey, 24,of 706 Earls Trail, was pronounced dead on the scene where itappears he lost control of his 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis on CadeLane.
“Apparently he was just on the way home from work, according tothe family,” Hart said.
Hart said Humphrey’s body will be sent to the Mississippi StateCrime Lab for an autopsy.
“It’s really still under investigation,” said Lincoln CountyChief Deputy Johnny Hall Wednesday morning. “It looked like he lostcontrol of the vehicle. They’re doing an autopsy to determine if itcould be a medical reason, and hopefully we’ll know something aftertomorrow if it was medical or not.”
Accident reconstructionists from the sheriff’s department andthe Mississippi Highway Patrol were on the scene trying todetermine the cause of the wreck.
Emergency personnel blocked Cade Lane on both sides of theaccident for approximately two hours until the scene could becleared, rerouting traffic to New Sight Drive and Old Red StarRoad. Hart said the accident occurred at 4:20 p.m., and Humphreywas pronounced dead by paramedics at 4:31 p.m.
Brookhaven Fire Department officials said the Jaws of Life wereused to remove Humphrey from his car.
Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is handling thearrangements, which are incomplete.
