ID theft nets jail sentence

A Monticello man was ordered Thursday to serve three years of afive-year sentence following his grand larceny and identity theftconviction earlier this week.
William Michael McDermott, 48, received a five-year sentence onthe identity theft charge and six months on the grand larcenycharge. Judge Mike Taylor ordered him to serve three years of theconcurrent sentences, with the remaining two on post-releasesupervision.
McDermott was convicted Wednesday in connection with activitieslast summer at the home of Toby and Colleen Welch. McDermottapologized to the Welches, his parents and the court prior toTaylor pronouncing sentence. McDermott also much pay $1,500 infines and $760 in restitution.
