Lady Cats rally past Stringer

STRINGER – The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats beat Stringer’s Lady Red Devils 6-4 Saturday in the MHSAA Class 1A state softball playoffs. They erased a 4-3 deficit with a 3-run seventh to take a 1-0 lead in the South semifinals series.

The Lady Cats (20-8) resume play Tuesday at 2 p.m., at Bogue Chitto, as the best-of-three series continues. Game 3, if necessary, would follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2.

Senior right-hander Rheagan Welch pitched the victory. She struck out 8 batters, walked 6, hit 1 batter and gave up 7 hits.

Madison Scoggins (3K, 1BB) was the losing pitcher. She allowed 8 hits.

“We put some pressure on them in the seventh and they dropped some fly balls,” said BC coach Scott Leggett.

Catcher Adrienne Wallace and third baseman Alana Nettles each had 2 hits. Mattie Avants, Daley Roberts, Christian Black and Welch singled.

The Red Devils committed 5 errors. At the plate, they were directed by Scoggins and Tasha Jones who singled twice. Ashley Valentine, Morgan Smith and Jaine Wade singled.

The Lady Cats took a 2-0, first-inning lead. They reclaimed the lead with a 3-run seventh. Avants and Nettles accounted for 2 RBI apiece.
