Northeast nips Co-Lin

BOONEVILLE — The Northeast Lady Tigers beat the Co-Lin LadyWolves 7-2 in the semifinals Sunday of the MACJC Fastpitch SoftballTournament at Northeast Community College.
Northeast (38-13) defeated previously undefeated Meridian(20-29) in the first title game to force a second. In the finalgame for the championship, Meridian’s Lady Eagles knocked offNortheast 6-4.
“We battled to the end,” said Co-Lin head coach Allen Kent. “Wenever game up. The top three seeds finished first, second and thirdin the tournament.”
The Lady Wolves finished the season with a 25-8 record.
“We faced the Northeast team again,” said Co-Lin head coachAllen Kent. “Josie (Lindgrin) pitched a 3-hitter. We had ourchances early. We left two runners on base in the first and secondinnings. We couldn’t get the two-out hit. If could have, it wouldhave been a different ball game.”
The Lady Tigers went up 1-0 in the top of the fourth and 4-0 inthe fifth. Northeast added another run in the seventh for a 7-0lead. Co-Lin scored its two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Lindgrin (20-7) was the winning pitcher. Sophomore Katie Rouch(14-3) absorbed the loss with 7 runs (4 earned) allowed on 6 hits,1 strikeout and 2 walks.
“At the beginning of the year, we had a lot of injuries and wereunsure of a lot of positions,” stated Kent. “We ended up having abetter year then I anticipated. These girls were overachievers. Wehad a very talented group and they really stepped it up.”
At the plate, Co-Lin was held to three hits. Ginny Dunaway,Courtney Angel and Elise Dixon singled.
“We are going to miss the leadership from Katie, Ashley (Davis)and Elise (Dixon),” added Kent. “They were our team captains thisyear. Rachel (Breaux) lead us in hitting. Ginny was a very valuableasset to our team. We are really going to miss thesesophomores.
We have some good signees,” added Kent. “A lot of our freshmen,returning as sophomore,s had a good year this year. We look forthem to continue improving.”
