Julie Montalvo, a volunteer with the Brookhaven Animal Rescue League, pets Waffles, a once-abandoned kitten now housed at BARL’s shelter, on Tuesday. Waffles, a yellow tabby, can be adopted for a $60 fee, which includes feline AIDS and leukemia testing, spaying or neutering and proper vaccinations. BARL will be hosting its second annual Barkfest on the grounds of the Mississippi School of the Arts Campus Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to raise awareness as well as funds for their shelter.
