Services for Mamie Viola Kinchen Sykes of Holden, La., are 2p.m., Monday, April 12, at First Pentecostal Church in DenhamSprings, La., with burial in Sykes Cemetery in Holden, La. GeislerFuneral Home in Albany, La., is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Sunday from 5-10 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. until2 p.m., at the church. The Revs. Ray Johnson, Paul Dickson, TonyRoberts and Malcolm Meyers will conduct the services.
Mrs. Sykes, 83, died April 9, 2004, at her residence. She wasborn to Robert E. Kinchen Sr. and Edna Owens Kinchen.
She was a homemaker. She also owned Sykes Grocery in Manchac,La., for 26 years. She was a member of the First Pentecostal Churchin Denham Springs.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, R.B. SykesJr.; a son, E.L. Sykes; two grandsons, Robert Earl Sykes andJeffrey Neil Sykes; and two sisters, Ruby Stewart and MaryTaylor.
Survivors are her daughters and sons-in-law, Helen Prokop andClaude Ray of Springfield, La., Norma and Joe Stewart, and Elaineand Ralph McCullen, all of Holden, La.; her sons anddaughters-in-law, Tommy and Diane Sykes of Maurepa, La., EarlMalcolm Jr. and Debbie Sykes of Hammond, La.; a daughter-in-law,Lois Nicholas Sykes of Manchac; four brothers, Elwood Kinchen ofDenham Springs, Norman Kinchen of Groves, Texas, Murphy Kinchen ofBaton Rouge, La., and Robert E. Kinchen Jr. of Denham Springs; 20grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and twogreat-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Brandon Sykes, Julius Prokop III, Raymond G.Blount Jr., Randy McCullen, Joshua Wright and Bradley Sykes.Honorary pallbearers are Michael Prokop, Edward Prokop, AlexProkop, Kevin Blount, Darren Blount, Gregory Sykes and Earl MalcolmSykes Jr.
