Lady ‘Cats sack Ole Brook

Bogue Chitto’s Aneshia Dillon tossed in a game-high 21 points tolead the Lady ‘Cats to a hard-fought 56-51 win over the BrookhavenLady Panthers Tuesday night in Sinclair Gym before an estimated1100 fans. It was the home opener for Ole Brook and head coachFreda Craft, who had defeated Bailey 73-11 in the Florence Tip-OffClassic Saturday.
Bogue Chitto slipped past Brookhaven 19-17 in the preliminary JVgirls game.
Brookhaven welcomes Wesson to Sinclair Gym Saturday for 3 games,beginning at 5 p.m. with a JV girls game. Bogue Chitto hostsEnterprise Saturday for 4 games; beginning at 4 p.m. with a pair ofjunior high games.

“We did not play well; we did not shoot well at all,” said CoachCraft. “We still had too many unforced turnovers.”
The Lady Panthers (1-2) held an early 4-0 lead on baskets byDesiree Benson and Precious Patterson. But that advantage would beshort-lived.
Bogue Chitto (2-0) countered the early-game jitters with a 9-2run, highlighted by Dillon scoring the Lady ‘Cats first 9 points ofthe game. It would be a lead that head coach Christi Terrell’sballclub would never relinquish.
“The girls played hard tonight against a very good Brookhaventeam,” Coach Terrell. “Coach Craft always does a good job with hergirls. A win like this will build confidence for the team, as theseason goes on.”
Terrell’s crew led 11-8 after one period, and by 8 points,29-21, at the half.
Brookhaven tried to get back in the game in the second half.Down by as many as 12 points early in the third period, thePanthers began to chip away at their deficit. Craft’s team enteredthe fourth stanza trailing 42-36 on a basket by senior DesireeBenson.
Ole Brook was down 3 points on several occasions in the final 8minutes. The last time was at 54-51 with 19 seconds left on theclock, on a pair of Desiree Benson free throws.
Dillon sacked a basket with 9 seconds left on the clock to sealthe win for Bogue Chitto. Dillon also dished out 6 assists and had5 steals.
“Brookhaven played hard against us and that will help us duringthe season,” Terrell added. “We played hard and we hustled.”
Lending support for the ‘Cats was Josie Porter with 10 reboundsand 4 assists. Adrienne hall had 7 rebounds and 2 steals. BogueChitto committed 32 turnovers, but held a 44-34 reboundingedge.
“We got outhustled tonight,” said Coach Craft.
Desiree Benson led Ole Brook with 16 points, 12 rebounds and 5steals. Maleysia Burnett had 8 rebounds and 2 assists. KearraCollins dished out a game-high 7 assists. Brookhaven committed 20turnovers.
In the JV game, Rheagan Welch and Adrienne Wallace topped BogueChitto with 6 points apiece. Carey Crozier led Brookhaven with 6points.
