Richardson’s 24 points lead Wolves

SENATOBIA — Jeremy Richardson broke loose for 24 points anddirected the Co-Lin Wolves to a 78-58 Tuesday victory over theMississippi Delta Community College Trojans in the NorthwestTournament. Richardson made 10 of 19 shots from the field.

In the women’s game, Co-Lin’s Lady Wolves scored a record-low 35points and lost to the Delta Lady Trojans 47-35 yesterday. Co-Linonly made 1 of 9 free throw attempts and was 16 of 57 from thefield.

Co-Lin returns home to host Coahoma for a Thursday nighttwinbill, starting at 6 p.m. with the women’s game in MullenGymnasium.

The Wolves (2-2) got 10 points and 6 reboundsfrom freshman Ledell Eackles to support Richardson. Co-Lin took a35-29 halftime lead.

“Jeremy Richardson shot the ball extremely well but the bestpart of his game was shot selection,” said Co-Lin men’s coachDennis Sims. Richardson made 4 of 8 from behind the 3-pointarc.

“Defensively, Co-Lin played well enough to hold Delta to 29points each half,” Sims noted. For the game, the Trojans shot 36percent from the field.

On the backboards, Derrick Jarvis directed Co-Lin with 10rebounds.

Delta got 12 points from Tyrone Edwards.

The Lady Wolves (2-3) trailed Delta 18-12 athalftime. They rallied in the second half but couldn’t overcometheir frigid shooting.

“We made a run at them (Delta) and cut the lead to two pointsbut we failed to score,” said Co-Lin women’s coach Gwyn Young. “Wehad four straight good looks at the basket with treys but couldn’tconvert.”

In the first half, Co-Lin only had 4 points in the first 15minutes of the game.

“We need to improve a lot on our offensive execution andball-handling,” said Young.

Co-Lin got a team-high 8 points, 8 rebounds and 7 steals fromsophomore Victoria Richardson. Travelyn Smith had 7 rebounds and 3steals.
