Franklin Co. girls advance in 3A playoffs

MEADVILLE — Franklin County girls’ basketball coach CharlesMoore’s game plan was to wear Perry Central out, and in the secondhalf his girls did just that by going on a 29-4 run to collect a56-24 Monday night victory and keep their super season going.
The Lady Bulldogs’ victory in the first round of the Class 3A SouthState Playoffs, sends them to the South State tournament at ChoctawCentral. FCHS will play Southeast Lauderdale Thursday night at 7 inthe quarterfinals.
The Franklin County boys host Collins tonight at 7 in the openinground of the 3A playoffs.
“Our plan tonight was to try and wear Perry Central out,” saidMoore following the game. “Our defense did a good job.”
Franklin County (24-1) trailed Perry Central 11-9 after one quarterof play before mounting a furious comeback in the second quarter.Inside baskets by seniors Jessica Jackson and Vintrice Briggs setthe tone and gave the Lady Bulldogs a 27-19 lead heading intohalftime.
Moore substituted freely throughout the game, keeping Perry Centraloff balance. Franklin County, ranked No. 1 in Class 3A. flexedtheir muscles in the second half and pulled away.
FCHS outscored Perry Central 13-1 in the quarter, as a huge trey bysenior Allison Hauer made the score 49-23 with six minutesremaining in the game.
Briggs, an All-State 5-10 senior forward, led the Lady Bulldogswith 19 points and 7 rebounds. Jackson, a 5-11 senior, added 12points and 6 boards.
For Perry Central, guard Jamie Carter had 10 points.
