Hattiesburg comes back to beat Wesson

HATTIESBURG — When Piney Woods canceled the remaining baseballgames of their schedule, Wesson baseball coach Hugh Knight wentlooking for another team. He found a big one in the Class 5AHattiesburg Tigers.

Tuesday night, Hattiesburg rallied to pull out a 7-6non-division win over Class 2A Wesson. Senior Mason Warren beltedtwo home runs with two runs scored and 5 RBI for the Cobras.

Wesson is 12-3 on the season and hosts district rival Loyd StarFriday night for a doubleheader. The junior varsity game begins at4:30 p.m. followed by the varsity at 6:30.

Hattiesburg improved to 15-5 overall.

The Cobras committed 4 errors and the Tigers made 2.

After trailing the Tigers 4-2 at the end of two innings, theCobras scored four runs in the top of the third for a brief 6-2lead. Hattiesburg came back with a pair of runs in the bottom totie the game at 6-all.

Hattiesburg took the lead for good with one run in the bottom ofthe fifth for the eventual win.

Posting the win was Curtis Banks (7-2) with 10 strikeouts and 3walks. Jonathan Grace (3-1) took the loss, striking out 1 batterand walking 5.

Singling for Wesson were Corey Puckett, Daniel Watson andGrace.

Hattiesburg was powered by Kyle Moore and Jeremy Bolton with adouble and a single apiece. Josh Luley tripled. Doubling was RobertWorrell. Brent Lefan and Steven Graves singled.
