Hinds AHS taps Hornets

UTICA – Samuel Richardson pumped in a game-high 23 points topower the Hinds AHS Bulldogs to a 60-53 Division 6-2A win over theLoyd Star Hornets Friday night.
In girls basketball action, Hinds AHS clipped Loyd Star69-57.
Loyd Star (4-2, 1-2) trailed Hinds AHS 16-6 in the first quarterand 27-17 at the half. The Hornets cut the deficit to two pointsnear the end of the game but the Bulldogs came back with a pair ofthree pointers to push the lead up again.
“Our shooting in the first half was cold,” said Loyd Star boyscoach Gene “Moochie” Britt. “Our cold shooting in the first halfkept us from winning the ball game.”
Senior guard Demarcus Barnes directed the Hornets with 14points, 13 rebounds and three assists. Collecting 11 points, sevenrebounds and three assists was Seth Britt. Finishing with 10points, 10 rebounds and three steals was Jamie Johnson. Jared Brittmade seven steals.
In the girls game, Jamakia Henderson led Loyd Star with 13points, six rebounds and two steals. Ava Brown netted 12 points andgrabbed eight rebounds. Jordan Britt finished with 10 points, sixrebounds and three steals. Starter Felicia Henderson is out for twoweeks with a sprained knee.
“We worked really hard,” said Loyd Star girls coach Lori Britt.”We were physically outmanned.”

The Hinds AHS boys knocked off Loyd Star 32-24. Koadie Oatis,Josh Britt and Juake Hooks led the Hornets with five pointsapiece.
Loyd Star hosts Division 6-2A foe McLaurin Tuesday for twovarsity games. The girls game begins at 6 p.m.
