Co-Lin Lady Wolves split chilly softball doubleheader

SCOOBA – On a cold, windy Wednesday, the Co-Lin Lady Wolvessplit their season opener with the East Mississippi CommunityCollege Lady Lions. EMCC won the opener 6-3 and Co-Lin took thenightcap 11-3 in near-freezing temperatures.

Co-Lin stranded nine base runners in the opener and committedthree costly errors.
“We just got off to a sluggish start,” said Co-Lin softballcoach Allen Kent. “Bethany Pinkston did her job in the circle andkept us in the game but we didn’t make the plays behind her.”
Pinkston, a freshman right-hander, struck out 10 batters, walked2 and gave up 3 earned runs on 7 hits.
Co-Lin third baseman Holli Smith hit a solo homer in the sixth.Casey Risher hit an RBI double to score Haley Sones who hadsingled.

The Wolves collected 13 hits in the finale and evoked the 8-runmercy rule. Pinkston (1-1) fanned 6, walked 3 and allowed 2 earnedruns.
DeeDee Walker and Sones each had 3 hits in the victory. Walkersmashed a bases loaded, 3 RBI single off the left field fence.
Co-Lin took a 7-1 lead in the fifth. Monea Cameron walked andstole second. Sones reached on a fielder’s choice and stole second.Erika Rutland followed with an RBI grounder.
