Seven-team jamboree at Franklin Co.

MEADVILLE — The Cellular South Spring Jamboree will provide apreview of area football teams Thursday in Franklin County’s LouieMullins Stadium. Seven teams will participate in the controlledscrimmage format, starting at 4 p.m.

“We are looking forward to hosting the jamboree,” said newFranklin County head football coach Grady McCluskey. He waspromoted to the top job when Anthony Hart accepted the position ofhead coach at Lafayette County in Oxford.

Games or scrimmages will be held simultaneously on each side ofthe 50-yard line. At 4 p.m., Brookhaven plays Tylertown andLawrence County meets Wilkinson County, followed by Brookhavenversus Wilkinson and Franklin County versus Amite County at 5.

The 6 p.m. session sends Jefferson County against Amite Countyand Lawrence County against Tylertown. At 7 p.m., Franklin Countyplays Jefferson County.

McCluskey said varsity games, featuring 15 offensive plays and15 defensive plays, would last 30 minutes. Junior varsity gameswill start immediately after the varsity games and last 20 minutes,including 10 offensive plays and 10 defensive plays.

Each game will start at the 40-yard line. There will be arunning clock and no time-outs. There will be no punting orkickoffs. Field goals and extra points will be acceptable, plus2-point conversion attempts after a touchdown.
