Brookhaven is going Hollywood. Well, sortof.
Reed’s Metals, Inc. has built, sold and installed a 72- by 80-footmetal building for a movie company that is shooting a film in BatonRouge and New Orleans in 2012.
The film will star Tom Cruise in a science fiction feature and willeither be called “Horizons” or “Oblivion.” The title is stillundecided.
Reed’s Metals, Inc. installed the building in Mansfield, La., forthe film.
According to Reed’s Metals owner Bernie Reed, the company waschosen to construct the building due to its ability to finish itquickly.
“We didn’t even know we were building this building for a moviewhen they first contacted us,” said Reed. “They wanted it builtwithin two weeks and we did that for them.”
Sales Manager David Forehand said other companies said they couldbuild the structure in four to six weeks, but movie producersneeded it faster.
“We pride ourselves on our ability to deliver fast service,” saidForehand.
The building will be covered in asphalt to make it look like anice-covered hideaway in Iceland.
Reed’s Metals has been in business since 1998 and has worked onplenty of projects, but this was not the biggest. That title wouldgo to a 120- by 300-foot riding arena built a few years ago.
