Watts: No problem in gravel issue

District Two Supervisor Bobby J. Watts acknowledged a visit froma State Audit Department investigator, but vehemently denied anywrongdoing involving gravel that was placed in the driveway of aresidence on Highway 51.

“Somebody turned that in, and it was on state highway property,”Watts said when questioned recently about the incident.

S. Ross Aldridge, a spokesman for the state auditor’s office,said he could neither confirm nor deny whether there was a caseinvolving the District Two supervisor.

However, Watts said an investigator from the department came theweek of Thanksgiving to look into the situation. The supervisorsaid the investigator found nothing wrong after seeing where gravelwas placed several feet off the road.

“He went back and I haven’t heard from him since,” saidWatts.

Watts went on to take issue with being questioned about thegravel issue when projects like 1.3 miles of new Heuck’s RetreatRoad or his bridge replacement efforts have received little to noattention.

“We work out here,” Watts said. “Anytime you’re working, you’regoing to get hit with this kind of stuff.”
