Wesson girlrs win division

WESSON – The Wesson Lady Cobras captured the Division 6-2Aslowpitch softball championship Tuesday night with a 14-1 win overthe Madison St. Joseph Lady Bruins. The Lady Cobras, coached byHeather Laird, are 10-6 overall and 7-1 in district play.

Wesson will host the Division 8 runner-up Tuesday, Oct. 15, inthe opening round of the state playoffs. The games begin at 6p.m.

“The girls played well,” said Laird. “They really bondedtogether and met one of their goals. Now, we have our eyes set onstate.

The winning pitcher was Brittany King who also drilled a homerun at the plate.

Brittany Smith sparked the Lady Cobras with four hits. King,Millie Smith and Lauren Hutson collected three hits apiece.

Adding support with two hits apiece were Maggie Morgan, AnnaJohnson, Whitney Brown, Channelle McCrory, Amanda Jackson andAshlea Brooks.

Wesson 27, Piney Woods 7

In recent play at Piney Woods, Wesson was directed to the win onKing’s five hits. Finishing with four hits apiece were Millie Smithand Maggie Morgan. Brittany Smith, Hayley Carr and Lauren Hutsonbelted three hits apiece. Following with two hits each wereJohnson, Brown, McCrory and Jackson.

King posted the win. Hitting a home run in the game were Brown,Millie Smith and Brittany Smith.
