Services for John Henry Dixon, of Union Church, are 11 a.m.Saturday, July 25, at St. Paul on the River in Union Church withburial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is Friday from 1 until 6 p.m. at Williams Mortuary inBrookhaven.
Mr. Dixon, 89, died July 16, 2009, at his residence. He was bornin Lincoln County on Nov. 18, 1919, to Julius Dixon and Cora BrownDixon.
He retired form Long Bell International Paper Co. in Weed,Calif., after 25 years. Mr. Dixon was a veteran of the U.S. Armyhaving served in World War II. He also landed on Omaha Beach inNormandy, France, during the D-Day landing. He was a member of St.Paul on the River.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a stepmother, BlancheDixon; a stepfather, Minor Herring; his first wife, Mamie Ola ScottDixon; his daughters, Sandra and Celestine; his sons, Duane andPaul; his sisters, Hattie Bee, Clessia Johnson, Marie Dukes andMarlee Johnson; and his brothers, J.T. Dixon and Robert C.Dixon.
Survivors are his wife, Gertha L. Dixon, of Union Church; hissons, Robert Dixon and wife, Diane, of Pasadena, Calif., John HenryDixon Jr. and wife, Donna, of Iuoe, Calif., Scotty Smith and wife,Sharon, Michael Smith and wife, Gwen, all of Brookhaven, TerrellSmith, of Union Church, and David Dixon and wife, Pamela, ofHaywood, Calif.; his daughters, Lou Ertis Bowman and husband, Earl,of Brookhaven, Bobbie Nell Dixon and husband, J.L., of Denver,Colo., Janice Dixon, of Sacramento, Calif., Maxine Bradford, ofOrville, Calif., Linda Faye Johnson, of Brookhaven, Linda Ambersand husband, Edison, of Sacramento, Val Dixon and husband, Randy,of Los Angeles, Calif., Michelle Smith and Kayla Smith, both ofUnion Church; his brothers, Lonnie B. Dixon, of Brookhaven, MelvinDixon, of Los Angeles, J.C.
