The National Weather Service in Jackson has extended a heat advisory through 7 p.m. Friday for a large portion of the Mississippi, including Lincoln, Copiah and Franklin counties.
Forecasters say the heat index is expected to reach 105 to 110 degrees today and Friday in some areas of the state.
“The combination of high heat and humidity will increase the risk of heat-related illness,” the Weather Service stated in a heat advisory notice.
“Residents are urged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors,” the advisory continued.
