A Brookhaven man was sentenced to 40 years in prison Tuesdaymorning after pleading guilty in the April 24 armed robbery andshooting of an elderly woman in downtown, officials said.

On the day his trial was to start, Quincy Walker, 21, of 226Washington St., pleaded guilty to armed robbery, aggravated assaultand conspiracy. He was charged in the incident involving86-year-old Eva Pullen, who was shot as she sat in her car in theFred’s parking lot in downtown Brookhaven.

Circuit Court Judge David Strong sentenced Walker to 25 years onthe armed robbery charge, 10 years for aggravated assault and fiveyears for conspiracy, said Assistant District Attorney DianeJones.

Walker was sentenced as an habitual criminal, meaning he mustserve every day of the 40-year sentence, Jones said. Walker wasalready on parole for a prior robbery charge at the time of hisarrest.

Walker’s brother, 20-year-old David Walker, was also arrested inconnection with the incident but later released by BrookhavenMunicipal Court Judge Raymond Boutwell, who determined there wasn’tenough evidence to hold him.

Pullen was shot four times and robbed of her purse in thenoontime incident that shocked the community. She was treated forinjuries and later released from a Jackson hospital.
