Lady Bobcats outscore Enterprise in slowpitch

BOGUE CHITTO – The Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats whippedEnterprise’s Lady Yellow Jackets 8-2 Monday night to claim therunners-up spot in the Division 7-1A slowpitch softball race. WendyFairchild pitched the victory, striking out 1 batter and walkingnone on newly-named Stanton L. Long Field.
Bogue Chitto (19-10, 8-2) will host the third place team out ofDivision 6-1A on Saturday for a best-of-three state playoff series.The Lady Bobcats split with Division 7-1A champion West Lincoln(22-8, 8-2) during the regular season.
According to the Mississippi High School Activities Association,the first place tie-breaker was determined on how West Lincoln andBogue Chitto fared against Salem, the third place team. WestLincoln swept Salem and Bogue Chitto split with the Lady Wildcats.West Lincoln beat Salem 7-1 Monday.
“This win was necessary for us to have a chance at first placein our division,” said Bogue Chitto coach Duane Burt. “Either way,first or second, we will host a first round in the playoffs.”
Due to school testing, Burt said the game with Franklin Countyhas been canceled.
Bogue Chitto raced to a 5-0 lead after 3 innings. The LadyBobcats finished with 9 hits. Losing pitcher Erin Thornhill fanned2 batters and walked 3.
At the plate, Bogue Chitto was led by LaSandra Smith who singledtwice and homered. Candace Braxton also homered. Brynna Wallace andMelaeah Brown both had 2 hits. Kayla Smith singled.
“Bogue Chitto hit the ball and we didn’t,” said Enterprise coachSteve Sasser. “We have to score runs on offense, especially inslowpitch.”
Enterprise (12-10, 4-6) needed to beat Bogue Chitto to claimfourth place in the division. Instead, Natchez Cathedral will go asthe No. 4 team out of the division.
The Lady Jackets got 2 singles from Kaylin Burke, SavannahPalomarez and Ashley Palomarez. Jana Brister, Deanna Albritton,Erin Thornhill and Kassey Rutland also hit safely.
In the JV game, Enterprise shut out BogueChitto 5-0, led by Ashley Beard who collected 3 singles. MonicaNations, Amanda Price and Melanie Rutland had 2 hits for the LadyJackets. Whitney Kyzar, Katie Hux, Anna Morgan and Nicole Sandifersingled.
Danielle Sasser led Bogue Chitto in batting.
