Wildcats sweep Co-Lin

POPLARVILLE — The Co-Lin Wolfpack baseball team needed to winone of two games against the Pearl River Community College WildcatsSaturday to reach the MACJC State Tournament at Mississippi GulfCoast in Perkinston next week.
Co-Lin couldn’t get it done as the Wolves fell to the Wildcats7-0 in the opener and 3-2 in the finale. Co-Lin, coached by KeithCase, finishes the season 22-24 overall and 7-9 in the South.
The Wildcats improved to 24-22 and 9-7 and cop the MACJC SouthDivision’s No. 2 seed in next week’s MACJC State Tournament. GulfCoast swept Jones County Saturday in Perkinston to end its regularseason at 16-0 in the South.
Pearl River 7, Co-Lin 0
Picking up the win in the opener was Kyle Lindsey (4-3) with 4strikeouts and 2 walks in going the distance. Joseph Langham (5-4)took the loss with 1 strikeout and 1 walk. Brett Hartfield tookover in the final 3 innings with 2 strikeouts and 1 walk.
Pearl River scored 1 run in the first inning and added 3 runs inthe third and in the fifth to secure the win.
The Wildcats outhit the Wolves 13-5 at the plate.
Steven Gauthe paced Co-Lin with 2 singles. Hitting safely werePaul Davis, Brandon Chretien and Taebyus Smith.
Brock White doubled and singled to lead Pearl River. Followingwith 2 singles each were Heath Stevens, Daniel Lawrence and MichaelLindsey.
Pearl River 3, Co-Lin 2
Kyle Lindsey (2-2) fanned 4 batters and walked five for the winin 5.2 innings. Working in relief was Cory Jordan with 2 strikeoutsand 1 walk. Absorbing the loss was Brandt Hinton (6-4) with 3strikeouts and no walks in going the distance.
Co-Lin cut the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the seventh. But thetying run was left on base.
Singling for the Wolves were Timmy Foster, Jordan Toney, PaulDavis and Ryan Hoben.
Catcher Derek Torotorich doubled to lead the Wildcats at theplate. Johnny Allen, Jeremy Greene, Lawrence, Michael Lindsey andStevens singled.
