Everyone is excited for this year’s SuperBowl between the New England Patriots and New York Giants, including Brookhavenites.
There’s something for everyone. Whether it’s the game, thecommercials or the smorgasbord of food and drinks among friends, you’re sure to find something to like.
In Brookhaven, both businesses and local residents are prepping forthe big game.
Violent Kyzar, co-manager of the Piggly Wiggly store on MonticelloStreet, says they are no different.
“We have a big display of dip and tortilla chips in the front ofthe store,” said Kyzar. “Our steak sales are always up, especiallyT-bone and ribeyes. People love to grill. We’ll sell a lot of charcoal and beeras well. People around here like to get outside and cook.”
Those who aren’t football fans still have something to see in thecommercials.
“The Super Bowl commercials are the best commercials you’ll see,”said Eric Lopez of Brookhaven. “I’m going to barbecue with a fewfriends. My Steelers are out of it, so I’m just looking for a goodgame.”
Some still have to work.
“We might have a 5 p.m. worship service, but after I’m sure we’llhave a few people over for the game,” said Pastor AnthonyYarborough of Pearlhaven Baptist Church.
Yarborough said he’d be rooting for the Giants and Eli Manning, anOle Miss alumnus.
There are many who would love to be at the game, but that did notwork out, as Mississippi School of the Arts student Ryan Cochrandiscovered.
“I had plans to go to the Super Bowl, but that fell through,” saidCochran. “I plan to not really do the Super Bowl. Me and a couplebuddies are going to go see the movie ‘Chronicle'”
The busiest day of the year for pizza chains like Domino’s andPappa John’s is Super Sunday. Regina Brock of West Lincoln says shedoesn’t plan to do any cooking, but pizza sounds like a plan.
“I’m going to eat some pizza and sit at home and watch the gamewith my daughter,” said Brock.
Shopping continues up until the final minutes, with fans grabbinglast-minute items to throw on the grill or on the table.
“Saturday should be a big day for us,” said Kyzar. “People like towait until the last minute.”
