Greene County Wildcats too much for Franklin Co.

LEAKSVILLE – From the opening play to the final whistle, theGreene County Wildcats made sure their streak of playoff gameswould continue with a 30-0 shocking win Friday night over theFranklin County Bulldogs.
“We came out here and played determined,” said Greene Countycoach Terry Jones. “This was a hard-fought game and we did what ittook tonight to get the win.”
The Wildcats (8-3) controlled the game from the opening bell assenior slotback Alton McCann dashed 80 yards untouched for a quick8-0 lead.
The Bulldogs (6-5) had an answer with a seven-play, 60-yarddrive that was capped by a 13-yard scoring scamper by Tommie Smith.The Dawgs then tried for a PAT but McCann stopped junior JonHickingbottom just short of the goal line.
After that, it was all Wildcats.
Greene County would explode for 22 straight points, 16 coming inthe second half, to take control of the game.
McCann (6-1, 210) was the key. The senior slotback dusted theDawgs in the third quarter with a 41-yard jaunt, that resulted in a22-0 Wildcats lead. Add four quarterback interceptions by ColbyBeach and that was it for Franklin .
“We didn’t execute when we had the chance,” said Bulldog seniorJames Hunt. “Penalties and mistakes hurt us pretty much allseason.”
Hunt and 12 other Bulldogs faced the fact after the game thattheir dream senior season had ended. Head coach Michael Goff toldthe team about the hardships of the game and life.
“This one’s going to hurt for a while,” said Goff to the team.”I wish we could haven gone farther but tonight proved it wasn’tmeant to be. And that’s going to hurt our seniors for a longtime.”
Goff’s Dawgs only bright spot of the game was on defense wheresophomores Marcus Steward and Donald Ray Smith led. Stewart, a6-foot, 170-pound linebacker, led the Dawgs with 19 tackles and afumble recovery. Smith broke the Bulldogs single season record with117 on the year.
For the Wildcats, McMann led all rushers with 13 carries for 220yards and two touchdowns. Junior quarterback Chuck Ross had 11carries for 72 yards and two scored.
