Brookhaven Panthers ambush Terry

Brookhaven and Terry met Friday evening, to finish theirDivision 6-4A 3-game series with a twinbill on Moyer Field. Asexpected, it was an exciting matchup. Brookhaven was looking toavenge their 5-0 loss at Terry on Tuesday night, while Terry waslooking to sweep the Panthers in the series.

It would be home field heroics that would spur the Panthers to adoubleheader sweep of their rivals from Hinds County. In Game 1,the Panthers jumped on the Bulldogs early and held on for an 8-6win. Brookhaven posted a 7-2 victory in the nightcap.

“This was two really big wins for us,” said Brookhaven headcoach Randy Spring.

Brookhaven 8, Terry 6

The Panthers (13-7, 9-3) used the first 2 innings to jump out toa 6-0

lead. Josh Anderson, Reggie Smith Justin Sykes and Brooks Hallopened the game with 4 consecutive hits. Anderson, Sykes and Hallsingled, while Smith doubled. Anderson and Sykes scored to giveBrookhaven a 2-0

advantage.

In the second, a wild pitch from Terry starting pitcher BrianBarlow allowed Darius Perkins and Anderson to score. Singles fromSykes and Adam Ogden allowed Reggie Smith and Sykes to cross homeplate.

Terry (18-3, 10-2) closed the gap to 6-1 in the top of thethird. Barlow

doubled for the Bulldog’s first hit of the game. Three batterslater, second baseman Joey Shank’s sacrifice fly to center fieldscored Barlow.

The Bulldogs etched a single run in the fourth as Lon Williamsonscored on a sacrifice fly by Barlow. Barlow’s score narrow thePanther’s lead to 6-2.

Brookhaven scored in the fourth. Hall singled and later scoredon Corey Smith’s ground out to second.

Terry erupted for 4 runs in the sixth. Shanks’ two RBI singleplated Bronson Durr and Barlow. David Shaw and Shanks also scoredin the inning to pull the maroon-clad Bulldogs to within 1 run,7-6.

With 1 out in the sixth, Panther starting pitcher Scotty Smithsingled. Three batter later, Perkins’ single scored Smith.

Smith picked up the win for Brookhaven. He allowed 6 runs on 7hits, issuing 4 bases on balls and struck out 5 Terry batters.Smith also singled twice at the plate.

Anderson led the Panther offensive with a single, a double and 2runs scored. Reggie Smith doubled twice. Sykes singled twice andscored twice. Hall had 2 singles. Ogden singled twice.

Terry was led at the plate by catcher Jobe Allen with 2singles.

Barlow suffered the loss for Terry. He allowed 8 runs on 13Panther hits. He walked 2 Brookhaven batters and struck out 6.

Brookhaven 7, Terry 2

Wining pitcher Reggie Smith struck out 7 batters, walked 4 andgave up 2 runs on 7 hits as the Panthers swept Terry.

Second baseman Justin Sykes tripled for Brookhaven. LeftfielderCorey Smith had 2 RBI for the Panthers. Shortstop Brooks Halldoubled and singled. First baseman Josh Townsend had 2 hits.
