Brookhaven Academy humbles Huntington

FERRIDAY, La. — Jake Reed scored 26 points and grabbed 12rebounds in leading the Brookhaven Academy Cougars to a 66-22Tuesday night trouncing of the Huntington Academy Hounds. SidneyChaffin chipped in 23 points and 4 rebounds.
In the varsity girls game, sophomore guard Terah Winborne’s 16points sparked the Lady Cougars to a 65-17 rout of the LadyHounds.
The Cougars (1-0), coached by Dale Watts,roared to a 39-5 halftime lead. Brennan Miller tossed in 13 points.Gage Posey grabbed 5 rebounds and Brock Smith 4.
The Hounds got 11 points from Kevin Brown.
The Lady Cougars (3-0), coached by Barry Gray,got 11 points from junior center Anna Katelyn Mangold and 10 pointsfrom guards Anna Lofton. and Meredith Allen. Laura Beth Wrightgrabbed 7 rebounds and Haley Langston 6 as BA hustled to a 44-13halftime lead.
Winborne, Lofton and Wright each had 4 assists. Wright made 4steals.
Huntington was led by Kristin Havard’s 9 points.
Junior High Action
In the junior high boys game, Will Hickman poured in 19 pointsas BA cruised to a 68-25 victory. Ross Forman added 10 points, ZacSmith and Alex Gray 9 apiece, Hunter Reed 8, Zac Thornhill 7 andLandon Nettles 5.
Huntington was led by Brandon Marshall’s 9 points. Jared Hedrickand Garrett Vinson scored 8 apiece.
Twelve points each by Madison Warren and Mary Jordan led BA overHuntington 40-3 in the junior high game. Jordan also grabbed 14rebounds.
Caroline Stewart contributed 9 steals, 8 points and 5 reboundsto the win. Victoria Jordan had 6 rebounds and Destiny Allen 5.
Emily Pearson’s 3 points paced Huntington.
