Services for Willard Eugene “Gene” Smith of Brookhaven are 11a.m., Saturday, Sept. 29, at Harrigill Funeral Home Chapel withburial in Easthaven Cemetery.
Visitation is today from 4-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith, 80, died Sept. 27, 2001, of heart failure at King’sDaughters Medical Center. He was born in Lincoln County on May 28,1921, to Rufus and Louetta Chandler Smith.
He was retired after more than 35 years with Campbell MotorExpress, serving Brookhaven and surrounding area. He was an Armyveteran of WWII, serving in the South Pacific and the Battle of thePhilippines. He was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wives, JeanetteHoliday Ervin Smith and Frances Thornhill Townsend Smith; hisstepson, Wayne Ervin; and his brothers, Elmer, Emerson, Thomas Earl”Cot”, Ernest “Lamb”, A. C., Roy, and A. T. Smith.
Survivors are his daughter, Dorothy Townsend White ofBrookhaven; his stepdaughter, Margaret Ann Ervin Winters of Eden,Utah; his stepson, Mike Townsend of Houma, La.; his special brotherand sister-in-law, Wesley and Viana Thornhill of Hammond, La.; hisnephews, Carroll Smith of Vicksburg, Russell Smith of Austin,Texas, and John Paul Smith of Brookhaven; his nieces, Etta RuthBurke of Wesson; Jeanette Reeves of Brookhaven, and Sybil Smith ofJackson; his grandchildren, Lance and Holly White, Clint and PattyWhite, and Kristie and Chris Delaughter; and hisgreat-grandchildren, Wesley and Haley White.
