Wesson tops Enterprise

Wesson catcher Matt S. Smith drilled a grand slam home run inthe top of the seventh inning to give the visiting Cobras a 10-4lead.
The Enterprise Yellow Jackets added 2 runs in the bottom of theseventh but could not tie the Cobras who held on for a 10-6 victoryin Division 6-2A varsity baseball action Thursday night.
Wesson improved to 9-10 overall and 6-4 in division play.Enterprise fell to 5-5 in division action and 9-6 on the season.The Cobras are tied with the Loyd Star Hornets for the No. 2 or No.3 spot while the Jackets are No. 4.
Enterprise senior player recognized include Ky Burke, JonathanBurns, Tanner Delcambre, Ryan Kennedy, Taylor Herrington, TrentHerrington and Clay Russell.
“It was close but Wesson’s Matt S. Smith had a big hit,” saidEnterprise coach Cass Brister. “We hit the ball well. We just didit with two outs instead of early in the game. I’m losing seven ofnine starters. My seniors played a big part for this club.”
After 2 innings, Wesson held on for a 4-2 lead. At the end offive, the Cobras were still on top of the Jackets 6-4.
“We had a good game,” said Wesson head coach Hugh Knight. “Wehit the ball tonight off their ace (Kennedy). This was a big gamefor us for district. We are playing like we should at this point ofthe year. My guys played hard.”
Powering the Jackets at the plate with a home run and a singlewas single was Leggett. Trent Herring homered. Doubling were TaylorHerrington, Clay Russell and Jarrett Todd.
For the Cobras, Matt S. Smith homered and singled twice. ChrisFink drilled a triple and a double. Matt P. Smith doubled.
Enterprise will not play again until the first round of thestate playoffs. Wesson hosts Bogue Chitto Monday night. The firstgame begins a 4:30 p.m. followed by the varsity at 6:30.

Enterprise rolled over Wesson 7-2.
