The streets of our fair city and county have been abuzz thisweekend as bicyclists from several states competed in the sixthannual Mississippi Gran Prix.
Sponsored by the Human Performance Center and other localbusinesses, the event brought some 200 riders, families and friendsto our area. Local hotels are booked solid, with some participantshaving to stay in McComb.
The three-day event started Friday night and ends Sunday atCo-Lin.
Bikers competed in a criterium in downtown Brookhaven Fridayevening. They moved out to the Heuck’s Retreat area Saturdaymorning and then on to speed trials at Union Hall Baptist Churchlater in the afternoon. This morning the cyclists hit the streetsof Co-Lin at 7 o’clock for the final day of racing.
The brainchild of Brookhaven biker Frank Moak, the event hasbecome popular among the cycling crowd across the South and hasgained its share of local spectators each year.
All in all, it is a great opportunity for others to visit ushere, to see what we have to offer and to help us promote this areato the rest of the state.
