A “Remembrance and Celebration of Life” for Karen Grenn will be held at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Natchez Avenue Saturday, May 25, from 1 until 3 p.m.

Karen, 62, passed away May 19, 2013, at Community Hospice in Jacksonville, Fla., after a brief illness. She was born in Brookhaven on Dec. 9, 1950, to James F. and Effie Jean (Maxwell) Grenn.

After graduation from Brookhaven High School in 1968, Karen went to Rice University in Houston, Texas, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in architecture. She then served with the Peace Corps, using her architectural skills to assist in the design of several public buildings in American Samoa. Upon her return to the States, Karen began a lifelong career as a designer of heating, ventilation and air systems, first in Savannah, Ga., and later in Jacksonville, her home for the past 25 years.

Preceded in death by both of her parents, Karen is survived by her sisters, Gloria Grenn and Janice Grenn Kaplan (husband, Eric). Also surviving her are her three nephews, Chaz Hardin (wife, Missy), Jamie Hardin, also known as Bob, and Carey Hardin (wife, Amy); her three nieces, Alicia (Dvorak) Casbon, Julia (Dvorak) Young and Miranda Kaplan; seven great-nieces and great-nephews; and three special aunts, Lorraine Farr, Mary Louise Brown and Marion Grenn. She will be missed by many other dear relatives, friends and co-workers.
