Ole Brook girls dump Lawrence Co.

MONTICELLO – Errors and pitching played a major role in theDivision 6-4A championship showdown Thursday night between longtimesoftball rivals Brookhaven and Lawrence County. The 2 teamscombined for 9 miscues and 8 hits, but the Lady Panthers got theruns when they needed for a hard-fought 7-3 win over the LadyCougars on Senior Night.
With the win by Ole Brook, they improve to 20-4 overall and 8-0in the division; thus claiming the 6-4A regular season crown.Lawrence County fell to 7-9 and 5-2 and need a win over McComb tofirmly capture the runner-up spot.
The top 2 teams in the division advance to the playoffs againstDivision 5.
Brookhaven beat Lawrence County 7-5 in the JV game.
Lawrence County hosts Oak Grove today for a JV/Varsitydoubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. and 6:30. Brookhaven travels toBogue Chitto Monday.

In pre-game ceremonies, LCHS honored seniors Kate Davis, Dee DeeWalker and Sage Mabile. Each player was presented with a gift, abouquet of flowers and balloons and a giftbag by their parents andtheir teammates.
“There were a lot of errors out there tonight,” said LCHS headcoach Beronica Stringfellow. “Both pitchers threw a great game.”Stringfellow was referring to the efforts of Brookhaven’s TerriHodges and Lady Cougar Jessie Alexander.
Hodges got the win with 9 strikeouts and 3 walk
The Lady Panthers opened the scoring in the top of the first totake an early 2-0 lead. Hodges walked and stole second. KatieStewart reached on an error and moved to second on a wild pitch.Sabrina Delaughter reached on an error that allowed Hodges andStewart to score.
LCHS cut their deficit in half in the fourth. Kate Davis reachedon an error. Allie Harris’ popup to centerfield moved Davis tosecond. Two batters later, Shelby Mitchell’s single scoredDavis.
Hodges and Alexander threw a lot of pitches during the latterinnings. The scoring began to pick up in the sixth.
Brookhaven got a single from Delaughter with 1 out. StevieWright reached on an error. Two batters later, Delaughter wouldcross homeplate off of Brianna Ashmore’s base hit. Wright scored ona wild pitch and Ashmore would later score on a passed ball.
The Lady Cougars plated 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth.Harris reached on an error and stole second. Three batters later,Deanna Platt’s single scored Harris. Hannah Calcote’s base hitscored Platt.
Ole Brook got a pair of insurance runs from Hannah Lowman andHodges in the seventh. Hodges would hold LCHS to a walk in thebottom of the inning to seal the victory.
