Wesson boys romp past Crystal Springs; girls fall

Wesson whipped Crystal Springs 5-1 in Tuesday night boys socceraction at the Hansel King Sportsplex. Powering the Cobras wassophomore forward Carlos Camacho with 4 goals. Kyle Kearney scoredonce as the Cobras took a 3-0 halftime lead.

“We played really well,” said Wesson boys coach Ricky Gunter.”We were short-handed but we had some players step up and playwell.”

Gunter said defender Brandon Burch sustained a sprained anklelast night. Goal keeper Mitchell Wilkinson allowed just 1 goal.

Crystal Springs got one goal from Cornelius Lyles.

The Cobras are 3-4 overall.

Lady Cobras Tumble

In the varsity girls game, Crystal Springs defeated Wesson 4-3Tuesday. Forward Trystan Eschete scored twice for the Lady Cobras.Midfielder Kristina Fink scored once.

Fink provided an assist and midfielder Chelsie Brown had 2assists. Crystal Springs led 4-1 at halftime. Fink scored in thefirst half on a throw-in from Brown.

“Crystal Springs is always tough for us,” said Wesson coachRobert Alsbury. “It’s an in-county rivalry.”

Elicia Farmer scored 2 goals for Crystal Springs. Marlee Hahnand Montana Hahn also scored. Goalie Cassandra Stubblefieldaccounted for 8 saves.

Wesson’s girls are 3-3 overall and 2-0 in the division race. TheLady Tigers, coached by Henry Poole, are 4-3-1. They see districtaction Friday night at McLaurin.

Wesson resumes play Saturday at Lawrence County starting at 1:30with the varsity girls game.
