Enterprise squashes Wildcats 44-0

A bevy of powerful runningbacks and a stingy defense were allthe Enterprise Yellow Jackets needed as they pounded the SalemWildcats 44-0 in Division 7-1A battle Thursday night.

The Jacket offense pounded 398 yards of total offense (all onthe ground), while the defense held the Wildcats to only 39 totalyards. Salem finished the game with minus 11 yards rushing.

Enterprise’s journey continues towards a possible playoff berth,traveling to Dexter on Friday night to meet the Bulldogs in adivision game. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Jackets (6-2, 2-1) shut Salem down on theiropening possession, then wasted little time in getting on thescoreboard.

Junior runningback Shermaine Vaughn scored on a 13-yardtouchdown run with 7:15 left in the opening period. Brent Boyd ranin the 2-point try and Jacket faithful had witnessed an early 8-0lead.

Vaughn would find paydirt once again, nearly five minutes later,when he scored from 20 yards out. The 2-point conversion pass wasintercepted, but Enterprise extended their lead to 14-0.

Vaughn, who rushed for 145 yards on eight carries, scored histhird touchdown on a sweep play with 32 seconds remaining in thefirst. The conversion failed and the Jackets entertained a 20-0advantage entering the second quarter.

Senior Brent Boyd got into the scoring act, taking a pitch fromsophomore quarterback Justin Kyzar and racing 64 yards to the goalline. Monti Crotwell ran in the 2-point conversion try andEnterprise head coach Rickey Deere had watched his ballclub pushtheir lead to 36-0 with 7:13 left in the first half.

Salem, coached by Kenneth Murphy, was held to only three yardsof total offense in the first half.

Boyd would find the endzone for the second time on the night; a12-yard scoring burst with 7:42 left in the third. Shermaine Vaughntacked on the 2-point conversion try and the Jackets still held a36-0 lead.

Boyd finished the game with 95 yards on six carries.

Crotwell scored the final points of the evening, when he foundpaydirt from six yards away with four minutes left in the thirdquarter. Kevin Harris, a 6-foot-3, 300 lb. senior scored the2-point conversion try and the Jacket had realized their finalmargin of victory.

Defensively, Zach Smith paced the Jacketdefense with 12 tackles. Chase Raiford provided eight tackles. JoshTanner had 1 1/2 sacks. Scott Johnston had 1 1/2 sacks. ReynardSkipper and Justin Busby each had an interception. Billy Reevesrecovered a fumble. Stuart Britt was in on a sack.
