Walter Cleveland Allred
Graveside services for Walter Cleveland Allred of Vidalia, La.,and formerly of Brookhaven, are 3 p.m., Thursday, March 1, atIndian Springs Cemetery in Perry County.
Mr. Allred, 91, died Feb. 28, 2001, at Walthall County GeneralHospital. He was born in Auburn.
He was a retired gravel truck driver.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Myrtle Allred; his son,Richard Allred; his daughters, Annie Laura Bryan and Janie ShirleneButler; his brothers, Lucious Allred, Robert Allred, Fred Allred,Elmer Allred, and Lonnie Allred; and his sister, Bertha Smith.
Survivors include eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren,two great-great-grandchildren, one nephew and two nieces.
Alton Edward Applewhite
Services for Alton Edward Applewhite of Brookhaven are 2 p.m.,Friday, March 2, at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel with burial inNew Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Franklin County.
Visitation is Thursday from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Applewhite, 84, died Feb. 28, 2001, at King’s DaughtersMedical Center. He was born in Franklin County on April 13, 1916,to Edward Alton Applewhite and Nora Smith Applewhite.
He was a retired county worker. He was a member of McCall CreekBaptist Church, where he was a deacon.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Survivors are his wife, Vera Mae Dunigan Applewhite ofBrookhaven; his son, Kenneth Applewhite of Ridgeland; hisdaughter-in-law, Mary Applewhite; his brothers, Melvin Applewhiteof Monticello, Donald Applewhite of McCall Creek and GlenApplewhite of Brookhaven; his sisters, Edith Dunican and HelenKetteringham, both of Jackson, and Mary Nell Applewhite and CarolynSmith, both of Brookhaven; and one grandchild, Alton EugeneApplewhite of Ridgeland.

Services for Luke Beard of Wesson are 1 p.m., Saturday, March 3,at Damascus M. B. Church with burial in Old St. John Cemetery.
Visitation is Friday from 1-6 p.m. and Saturday from 11a.m.-12:55 p.m. at the church. Family hour is from noon until 12:55p.m.
Mr. Beard, 78, died Feb. 26, 2001, at Countrybrook LivingCenter. He was born in Lincoln County on April 22, 1922, to Georgeand Ellen Beard.
He was a retired pulpwood hauler and farmer.
Survivors are his daughter, Diana B. Christmas of Wesson; hissister, Florence Steward of Lansing, Mich.; his brothers, WillieBeard of Brookhaven, and Lucien Beard and Lindsay Beard, both ofLansing, Mich.; and one grandson.

Mr. Bledsoe, 87, died Feb. 24, 2001, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter. He was born in Lincoln County on March 8, 1913, to WilliamBledsoe and Ethel Smith Bledsoe.
He was retired. He was a member of Macedonia M. B. Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his son, Jessie EarlBledsoe; his sisters, Wydell Markham, Vargie Mae Bledsoe, andGurtrude Shipp; and his brothers, Deon Bledsoe, R. T. Bledsoe,Ameal Bledsoe, and Bernell Bledsoe.

Wallace “Pee Wee” Cooper Jr.
Services for Wallace “Pee Wee” Cooper Jr. of Spring, Texas, wereTuesday, Feb. 27, at Klein Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Cooper, 51, died Feb. 23, 2001. He was born in Nome andgraduated from Hardin-Jefferson High School in 1968.
He had worked many years in the field of hospital administrationand was executive vice president at Tomball Regional Hospital.
Survivors are his wife, Jane Miles Cooper; his daughter, TraciCooper of Arlington; his son, Andrew Cooper of Huntsville; hisbrother, Michael Garrett of Nome, and a host of other relatives andfriends.

John Richard Scott

Mr. Scott, 79, died Feb. 27, 2001, at Natchez CommunityHospital. He was born in Franklin County on Dec. 9, 1921, to T. J.Scott and Lois Murray Scott.
He was a senator from 1968-71 for District 67. He was retiredfrom the State Agriculture Department. He was a member of PleasantValley Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 40 years. Hewas a veteran of WWII. He was a lifetime member of AmericanLegion-Fayette. He was a Master Mason with Bude Lodge #566.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his son, George EdwinScott; his brothers, Ernest and A. J. Scott; and his sisters,Jeanette Smith and Aline Scott.
Survivors are his wife, Helen Lewis Scott of Meadville; hissons, Johnny W. Scott and William E. “Bill” Scott, both ofMeadville; his daughter, Pam Pachmayr of Columbia; his brothers,Tom Scott of McCall Creek and Sherrod Scott of Eddiceton; hissisters, Francis Flowers and Willena Scott, both of Meadville, andRachel Buckles of Natchez; and eight grandchildren and onegreat-grandchild.

Mr. Smith, 87, died Feb. 24, 2001, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter. He was born in Sharkey County on Dec. 5, 1913, to FerdSmith and Mary Newton Smith.
He was retired from Shell Oil Company and Brookhaven Equipment.He was a member of Southway Baptist Church. He was an Army veteranof WWII.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and his brother, FredE. Smith.
Survivors are his wife, Willena Haley Smith of Brookhaven; hisdaughter, Jo Mathews of Brookhaven; his sister, Loucyle Bowman ofBrookhaven; his nephews, David K. Smith and Mike F. Smith, both ofBrookhaven; and his nieces, Carla Bowman and Peggy Castilaw, bothof Brookhaven.

Mrs. Taylor, 81, died Feb. 27, 2001, at her residence. She wasborn in Lincoln County on Dec. 19, 1919, to Frank Taylor and MaggieRichardson Taylor.
She was a homemaker.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her brother, Johnny F.Taylor; her sister, Ludie M. Coughlin; her son, Sam Rufus III; andher daughter, Beatrice Taylor.
Survivors are her daughters, Barbara Chisolm of Santa Rosa,Calif., Maggie Banks of Jackson, Bettye Renfro of Gulfport, andPatricia Brown, Audrey Wilson, and Luatrice Taylor, all ofBrookhaven; her sons, Willie Chisolm of Milwaukee, Wis., GlennRufus of Brookhaven, Michael Taylor of Natchez, and Harry Taylor ofGulfport; and 25 grandchildren.
Clayton A. Woolley
Services for Clayton A. Woolley of Clinton were 11 a.m.,Thursday, March 1, at Parkway Baptist Church with burial inLakewood Memorial Park.
Mr. Woolley, 76, died Feb. 27, 2001, at his residence. He wasborn in Lincoln County and attended Loyd Star School and HindsJunior College.
He was president of Woolley Brothers of Jackson and Baton Rouge.He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church, where he had served as adeacon, usher, and Sunday school teacher. He was a member ofCapitol Masonic Lodge #600, was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason,and a member of the Wahabi Shriners. He was a member of theSouthern Upholstery Jobbers Association. He was a WWII veteran,serving in Patton’s Third Army.
Survivors are his wife, Faye Malone Woolley; his daughters,Linda Woolley of Clinton and Rhonda Woolley Weeks of Vicksburg; hisson, Clayton Randall Woolley of Caseyville; his sisters, Eula N.Pierce of Jackson and Wessie W. Smith of Brookhaven; his brother,H. S. Woolley of Brookhaven; and three grandsons.
