Funeral services for Roy Sherwin Stephens, of Red Lick, are 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, at his home, with burial in Stephens Family Cemetery. Chad Ainsworth will officiate. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Friday from 5 p.m. until at his home.
Mr. Stephens, 74, died Jan. 16, 2013, at The University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was born in Jefferson County on Sept. 4, 1938, to Victor Hugo Stephens and Maddie Lee Ivy Stephens.
He was retired from International Paper for 33 years; after retirement, he worked on the family farm. He was a member of Red Lick Baptist Church. Mr. Stephens was drafted into the U.S. Army as a surveyor during Vietnam.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Kenneth Stephens and Ray Mervin Stephens; sisters, Mildred McCurley, Bessie Sproles and Lucy Mae Stephens; and special friend, Dorothy Bey.
Survivors are his wife of 49 years, Mary Dillon Stephens; son, Joel Ray Stephens and wife, Tonya, of Red Lick; daughter, Carrie Louise Hoover and husband, Tim, of Denham Springs, La.; brother, John Garrett Stephens; sisters, Elaine Rutland, Jean Brown and Jessie Lock; eight grandchildren, Amanda Stephens, Joseph Anderson, Brittany Anderson, Brandon Anderson, Tristan Stephens and Anna Grace, Allie and Adam Brown; and two great-grandchildren, Braiden Anderson and Jordon Anderson.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Pallbearers will be Joel Stephens, Joseph Anderson, Brandon Anderson, Jackie Stephens, Glen Stephens, Dale Stephens, Robbie Stephens, Kirk Dillon, Keith Dillon and Tristan Stephens.
Honorary pallbearers are Delton McCurley, Edward Shorter, David Stump, Mike Lush, Bill Thrasher, Jimmy Queyrouze, Hubert Cliburn and Leroy Vicknair.
