Services for Freda Latrell Merchant, of New Orleans, formerly ofBrookhaven, are 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30 at Avery Chapel A.M.E.Church with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Williams Mortuary is incharge of arrangements.

Ms. Merchant, 67, died April 27, 2005, at her residence. She wasborn in Brookhaven on June 23, 1937, to L.B. McClain and LillianMerchant Williams, of Jackson.

She a retired public school teacher with the New Orleans PublicSchools. She was a 1955 graduate of Alexander High School and a1959 graduate of Jackson State University.

Preceding her in death was her father.

Survivors are her mother; her sisters, Claudette McDaniel, ofBrookhaven, and Julia Thomas, of Jackson; a special nephew, ClaudeWilliams, of Moss Point; two special nieces, Louise Robinson, ofBrookhaven, and Lillie Mae Watts, of Moss Point; her goddaughter,Marilyn James, of New Orleans; and many nieces, nephews and otherrelatives.
