Services for George H. Gulley Jr., of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m.Friday, Feb. 10 at Faith Presbyterian Church with burial inRiverwood Memorial Park. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is incharge of arrangements.

Visitation is Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Mr. Gulley, 79, died Feb. 6, 2006, at Hardy Wilson MemorialHospital in Hazlehurst following a lengthy bout with Parkinson’sdisease and other infirmities.

He was educated by the Brookhaven Public School, earned hisbachelor and law degrees from the University of Mississippi, and agraduate degree from New York University. While at Ole Miss he wastwice president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He served in theNavy during World War II.

Mr. Gulley was supportive of civic affairs in Lincoln County,serving as a longtime member of the Chamber of Commerce and KiwanisClub, where he was a past president. He was also active in theearly development of the Mississippi Republican Party in the 1960sand 1970s.

In 1967, he curtailed his law practice and joined ReformedTheological Seminary in Jackson where he served to raise funds andrecruit students. In 1977, he founded Riverwood Memorial Park whichhe owned and operated until the time of his failing health in 2004.He was a past president of the Mississippi Cemetery Association anda member of the State Funeral Board.

He was ordained as a Presbyterian elder in 1968, was a delegateto the first General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Americain 1975, and was a ruling elder on the founding session of FaithPresbyterian Church, Brookhaven, in 1976.

Survivors are his wife, Lawrie Griffin Gulley, of Brookhaven;his son, Jim Gulley, of Duluth, Ga.; his daughters, Sally Milton,of McComb, and Kelly Morse, of Payson, Ariz.; a brother, ColonelCharles B. Gulley, of Montgomery, Ala.; and nine grandchildren.
