Mississippi State University alumni and friends will gather nextThursday at the Brookhaven Country Club for a round of golf,followed by an alumni dinner meeting that night.

Brookhaven’s own Ann Sanders Carr will be among the guestspeakers. Carr recently was elevated to the position of MSUAssociate Athletic Director for Women’s Sports. She will be joinedat the podium by Russ McNickle, MSU assistant baseball coach.

Tickets to the 6:30 p.m. dinner are $15 each or $30 percouple/family.

The Seventh Annual George C. Brown Memorial Bulldog GolfTournament will start at 12:30 p.m. The 4-person scramble will go18 holes. Entry fee is $60 per player or $300 per team.

Hole sponsorships are $85. Tournament proceeds benefit theLincoln County MSU Scholarship Fund. Latest scholarship recipientswere Catherine Carty, Megan Grady, Chip Wells, Jeremy Winborne andJason Snider.

For the unknowing reader, Brown was a 1931 MSU graduate, plus a100 percent Bulldog backer and golfer. He was past president of thelocal alumni chapter.

Once upon a time, Professor Hoopla B.S., was president of theFootball Prognosticators Association of America. He has retiredfrom that lofty position and spends a lot of time relaxing on hishouseboat, anchored on the Bogue Chitto River.

Hoopla predicted the winners of 31 games last week and managedto get 21 right. He’ll start this week’s menu with a Thursday nightspecial.

Gulf Coast at Southwest: There’s no joy inSummit tonight as the Bulldogs secure a state playoff berth bybashing the Bears. Gulf Coast 31-10.

Lawrence County at Brookhaven: In anothermust-win game, the LCHS Cougars must beat the Panthers to make theplayoffs. In a wire game, Brookhaven 24-21.

Amite School Center at Brookhaven Academy:Coach Bo Milton has the opportunity to rest his starters in thesecond half. Brookhaven Academy 42-6.

Bogue Chitto at Natchez Cathedral: It lookslike a scoreboard light show in D’Everaux Stadium as the Bobcatstest the Green Wave. Cathedral 39-31.

Enterprise at Dexter: It’s been a difficultseason for the winless Bulldogs. The Fighting Yellow Jackets notchtheir third win of the season. Enterprise 35-22.

Loyd Star at Amite County: Trojans showcasetheir game-breaking speed. Amite County 41-14.

Mercy Cross at West Lincoln: After the longride from Biloxi, the Crusaders take care of business. Mercy Cross39-16.

Wesson at Hinds AHS: Tommy Clopton’s Cobrasneed a win over the War Dawgs to secure second place in thedivision race and a home field advantage for the first round of theClass 2A state playoffs. Wesson 27-24.

Tylertown at Franklin County: Bulldogs survivea severe test in Meadville and secure first place in the Region7-3A race. Franklin County 28-17.

Crystal Springs at Hazlehurst: Much-improvedTigers are tied for second place in Region 6-3A with the defendingstate champion Indians. In a shootout, Hazlehurst 37-27.

In other area action, Copiah Academy shouldwhip Columbia Academy 29-12, Columbia should clip North Pike 21-20,McComb should trample Terry 36-14, Parklane should dump Hillcrest28-14 and South Pike should swamp Jackson Bailey 41-6.

Kentucky at Mississippi State: On Saturday, therested Wildcats escape Starkville with an SEC win. Kentucky24-14.

Auburn at Ole Miss: Tommy Tuberville enjoysbeating his former team in Oxford. Auburn 38-10.

East Carolina at Southern Miss: Golden Eaglesfind enough healthy players to defeat the Pirates. Southern Miss24-13.

Jackson State at Arkansas-Pine Bluff: After abreakdown at Grambling last Saturday, the Tigers rebound with anarrow win. Jackson State 38-31.
