Husband charged in wife’s Saturday shooting death

A Brookhaven woman was killed Saturday afternoon when a domesticaltercation turned violent, authorities said, and her husband hasbeen charged with murder in the incident.

Gail Pendleton, 29, of 539 Martin Ave., was pronounced dead ather residence around 3:30 p.m., said Lincoln County Coroner ClayMcMorris. Her body will be sent to the Mississippi Crime Lab for anautopsy.

Brookhaven Police Capt. Bobby Bell said authorities received acall reporting a domestic incident at the residence at 3:12 p.m.Saturday.

“It turned violent, it turned deadly,” Bell said.

James E. Pendleton, 41, was arrested without incident shortlyafter police arrived on scene, Bell said. Pendleton has beencharged with murder and remains in the Lincoln County Jail.

The nature of the Pendletons’ altercation was not immediatelyknown.

“I don’t know exactly what they were fussing about,” Bellsaid.

Additional information was not immediately available. Aninvestigation was continuing late Saturday.

The couple had been married about three years. Bell said familymembers advised him that Gail Pendleton was a student atCopiah-Lincoln Community College and was scheduled to graduate inMay.

Community Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements for GailPendleton and they are incomplete.
