The Ole Brook Wind Symphony is planning to fill the sanctuary ofFirst United Methodist Church with sweet sounds Tuesday night.

The community group’s fall concert, sponsored by the BrookhavenArts Council, will begin at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be servedafter the concert.

Susan Jones, a co-founder of the Ole Brook Wind Symphony, saidthe group has been working hard to develop a delightful musicalevent for the community.

“We are excited about it. I think everyone will enjoythemselves,” she said.

Ole Brook Wind Symphony director Shaw Furlow says the group willcontinue to delight their audience in their fourth concert.

“The audience has come to expect a pretty good program, andwe’re not going to let them down,” he said.

The audience, which usually numbers over 300 for performance,can expect to hear a variety of music, excluding show tunes orholiday music.

“There are some pieces that are rather traditional soundingpieces and there are some that are contemporary sounding,” saidFurlow. “I think there’s something for everybody.”

Members of the Ole Brook Wind Symphony have been practicing forthe concert at 7 p.m. every Tuesday at Alexander Junior High Schoolband hall.

The group is open to people of any age with musical interests.The diverse group includes homemakers, retirees, college students,nurses, truck drivers, dentists, current and retired band directorsand now some Mississippi School of the Arts students.

“We have a good core group now. The numbers are staying solidand we’re playing a variety of music,” said Furlow.

Ole Brook Wind Symphony was started in 2001. The group hasextended to include members from the Brookhaven area, CrystalSprings, Hazlehurst, Wesson, Monticello, Meadville, Bogue Chittoand McComb.

“We welcome anybody that wants to come play. People don’t haveto try out or anything,” said Stanley Stewart, a former banddirector at Copiah-Lincoln Community College who now plays trumpetin the Ole Brook Wind Symphony.
