BOGUE CHITTO — When the dust settled Tuesday evening, the BogueChitto Lady ‘Cats had claimed a 9-4 triumph over the BrookhavenLady Panthers in a battle of unbeaten Lincoln County slowpitchsoftball powers. The Lady ‘Cats (5-0) exploded for 8 runs in thebottom of the first inning and never looked back, leading 9-0 after2.

“We got nine hits in two innings and then slowed down,” saidBogue Chitto head coach Scott Leggett. “We have to learn to keepthe bats going.

“Defensively, we played well, with just a few mistakes,” Leggettcontinued. “It was a great win over a great Brookhaven team.”

Shortstop Meleah (Hurricane) Brown directed the BC attack with 3hits. Left-fielder Kelli Howard tripled. Singles were provided byCaitlin Owen, Shaquille Burton, Devon Welch, Latoya Braxton, DoriHall, Candace Avants and Chelsey Miller.

Brookhaven (3-1), fresh from a 12-2 trouncing of West Lincoln onMamie Martin Field, was stunned by the first-inning fireworks onStan Long Field. The Panthers regrouped and scored 3 runs in thethird but were unable to generate more offense against BC’s stingydefense.

Winning pitcher Latoya Braxton walked 2 batters and fanned none,raising her record to 4-0 on the season. Brittany Smith was thelosing pitcher, with no walks and no strikeouts to her credit.

Coach Lisa Covington’s Panthers were led by second baseman TerriHodges who had 3 hits. Singles came from Sabrina Delaughter, KatieSmith, Katie Stewart, Ashley Sykes and Brittany Smith.

Each team committed 2 errors.

In the JV game, Brookhaven beat Bogue Chitto4-2 as Brianna Ashmore (1-0) pitched the win. A double by BrittanyBateman and singles by Hannah Lowman, Kelsey Freeman, GeorgiaRainer and Tyisha Jackson sparked the victory.

Kim Thomas homered for BC. Mikki Mitchell and Hannah Holmessingled.

Bogue Chitto resumes play Thursday at McComb, The JV plays at 5p.m., followed by the varsity at 6.
