Loyd Star High School’s Carlie Smith and Jarred Rogers have beennominated for the coveted Wendy’s High School Heisman Award.Similar to the collegiate Heisman recognition, this award honorsthe nation’s top high school seniors who best exemplify a supreme”scholar-citizen-athelete.”

These two promising leaders were recognized by Loyd StarPrincipal Wayne Rogers for their academic aptitude, athletictalent, and exceptional display of commitment to theircommunities.

“We believe it’s important to recognize our young people notjust for what they do in the classroom or on the field, but theircontributions to their communities,” said Coach Rogers. “TheWendy’s High School Heisman program is a great way to spotlight, ona national level, just how special they are.”

Now celebrating 13 years of commitment to youth and education,this program was created through a partnership between Wendy’s, theNational Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), andthe Heisman Memorial Trust, in 1994. Smith and Rogers werenominated for this program based on their accomplishments inacademics, sports, school, and community involvement.

“These students are truly in a league of their own,” says ArchieGriffin, the only two-time winner of the prestigious HeismanMemorial Trophy and program spokesperson. “Each student nominatedfor this award has gone above and beyond expectations to help thosein need, enhance their education and pursue their dreams.”
