Members of the Loyd Star Attendance Center Parent-TeacherAssociation met Monday night to consider the possibility ofsupporting school uniforms.
“We’re just initiating the laying of the ground work,” saidEddie Alsworth, PTA president. “We’re testing the waters.”
In meetings Monday night and last month, Alsworth brought up thetopic of instituting a school uniform policy at Loyd Star fordiscussion. Opinions have been mixed, but generally in favor of thepolicy.
However, Alsworth acknowledged Monday that the PTA has noauthority to establish the policy and the organization is simplygetting responses from the community.
“It’s certainly not our decision,” he said. “The final decisionis the school board’s.”
Alsworth said the PTA wanted to see how the community felt abouta uniform policy before deciding whether to take the request to theLincoln County School District Board of Trustees. He would alsolike to see if the policy would be supported districtwide beforeproceeding.
“This is not something we will see next year or possibly theyear after that,” Alsworth said. “We are in the very early stagesof this.”
