WESSON — Injury-riddled Co-Lin was unable to get its offenseworking Thursday night against the powerful Hinds Community CollegeEagles. Hinds limited the Wolfpack to just 132 yards total offenseand cruised to a 31-0 South Division victory in Stone Stadium.

Hinds, ranked No. 5 in the NJCAA national poll, improved itsrecord to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the South, just behind unbeatenPearl River. Co-Lin absorbed its fifth straight setback,falling to1-6 and 0-4.

Sophomore quarterback Keats Baldwin directed the Hinds offense.On a chilly night, Baldwin completed 16 of 25 passes for 231 yardsand 3 touchdowns. He was intercepted twice but the Wolves wereunable to convert the first quarter turnovers.

Co-Lin placekicker Chris Blackwell missed field goals of 33 and31 yards. The second attempt was blocked.

“Our defense played well in the first half but we missed twofield goals,” said Co-Lin head coach Glenn Davis who saw his teamtrailing 14-0 at halftime. “Because of injuries we didn’t have ourbest football players out there tonight. You have to have everybodyhealthy when you play a highly-ranked team like Hinds.”

Co-Lin quarterback Beau Billeck missed the game due to aconcussion suffered in last Saturday’s game at East Central.Standout wide receiver Daryl Johnson was slowed by a pulled groinmuscle and linebacker Lewis Thompson was sidelined by a shoulderinjury.

Backup quarterback Victor Williams was under heavy pressure fromHinds’ Division I front four. He completed 6 of 14 passes for 64yards and was intercepted once.

Co-Lin wide receiver D.J. Womack caught 4 passes for 44 yards.Johnson had 2 catches for 20 yards.

Tailback Julius Roberson powered Co-Lin’s rushing attack with 22carries for 63 yards.

Hinds head coach J. Mike Smith watched his Eagles shut outCo-Lin for a second straight year. He’s a Co-Lin alumnus and aformer assistant coach at Co-Lin.

“In the first half we were inconsistent with our offense but wesettled down in the second half,” said Smith. “Defensively, we areplaying real well right now. We have a really good front four andNo. 99 (Ryan McBean) has been playing really well.”

Baldwin, a sophomore from Brandon (Northwest Rankin), wasintercepted by Michael Blackwell and Matthew Taylor in the firstquarter before finding his groove.

After Hinds’ D’Eldrick Taylor intercepted a Williams pass andreturned it to the Co-Lin 18, the Eagles needed 3 plays to reachthe end zone. Keats threw a 16-yard strike to Chris Johnson in thecorner of the end zone.

Kyle Platt kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead with 12:02 leftin the first half.

After the Eagles blocked Blackwell’s second field goal attempt,it took them 3 plays to score again. Baldwin completed a shortslant pass to LeKeldrick Bridges which became a 59-yard scoringplay. Hinds led 14-0 with 4:24 left in the first half.

On their first possession of the second half, the Eagles marched66 yards in 11 plays. Baldwin hit Terrance Jones with a 5-yard TDpass.

The Eagles scored on a 64-yard punt return from Bridges on thenext series and led 28-0. Keats tacked on a 39-yard field goal with3:52 remaining in the third quarter, making it 31-zip.

The Eagles finished with 331 yards total offense. MartiseQuiller rushed 12 times for 67 yards. Greg Clark rushed 10 timesfor 50 yards.

Co-Lin resumes play next Saturday at Jones County in Ellisville.Kickoff is 2:30 p.m.

Hinds returns to Raymond and hosts East Central next Thursdaynight for homecoming.
