RAYMOND – The 2009 Mississippi Association of Community andJunior College regular season finale saw Hinds and Copiah-LincolnCommunities Colleges meet in a sun-drenched Joe Renfroe Saturdayafternoon. The Wolves used a balanced attack on both sides of theball; forging a 14-7 South Division win over the Eagles.

With the win by the Wolfpack, they conclude their season a 6-3overall and 4-2 in the South. Hinds finishes at 3-6 and 1-5.

“We finished the season on a good note, winning five out of ourlast six games,” said Co-Lin head coach Glenn Davis outside theWolves’ dressing room following the game. “The guys played hard allyear long. I am proud of them.”

Co-Lin lost wide receiver and return specialist Fred Fuller to aneck injury in the second quarter. Fuller was horse-collared by aHinds tackler and hit the ground face-first. He was taken to thehospital for x-rays where it was revealed that he had sustained astinger.

Fuller was able to walk after the medical exam and was expectedto make a full recovery.

All of the scoring was done in the first 17 minutes, 15 secondof the game. After the Eagles cut their deficit in half at the12:45 mark of the second period, defenses took over and turnoverssnuffed out many potential scoring drives.

“Our defense gave us another performance today, and has beendoing so all season,” Coach Davis commented. “Our offense gotbetter, as the season rolled on.”

Co-Lin used their second possession of the game to grab the 7-0lead with 10:41 left in the opening period. Titus Mobley scored thefirst of 2 touchdowns on a 10-yard run. Tyler Fitzgerald nailed thefirst of 2 successful PAT kicks.

The 2-play, 64-yard drive took only 40 seconds to complete. Themarch was set up a 54-yard burst from Mobley from the Co-Lin36.

Mobley hit paydirt again with 51 seconds left in the first. A2-yard run to the end zone gave the Wolfpack a 14-0 lead. Mobleyfinished the game with 101 yards on15 rushes.

The Eagles, coached by veteran head coach Gene Murphy, got onthe scoreboard when quarterback Les Lemons fired a 22-yard scoringstrike to wideout Treyvias Alexander. Jared Thames’ PAT kick wasgood.

“We completed well today against a very good Co-Lin team,”Murphy said. “We just did not make the plays when we needed to. Wewill now turn attention to recruiting and try to rebuild for nextseason.”

Aiding the Co-Lin cause on offense was freshman quarterbackPercy Turner. The Fayette native was 13 of 22 for 136 yards, butthrew 3 interceptions in the second half. His timely decisions insustaining Wolfpack drives were instrumental in the win.

“We wanted to control the ball and keep their offense off thefield,” Turner said. “We finished the season strong. This was alearning experience for me.

“We want to use this momentum and carry it into my sophomoreyear next season,” continued Turner.

Mike Shaw led the Co-Lin receivers with 79 yards on 5catches.

Defensively, the Wolves limited Hinds to 288 yards of totaloffense, including 109 on the ground. The Eagles lost their leadingrusher, former Provine standout Anton Taylor, to a dislocated kneein the third.

Donald Langley and Ken Adams led Co-Lin’s defense with 6 tacklesapiece. Charles Rancifer and Reggie Hunt followed with 5 stopseach.

Wolfpack defenders converging on sacks were Rancifer, Adams,Langley, Hunt, Josh Tillman, Roland Dampeer, Terrance Coleman,Cordario McClain and Jordan Hunt.
