Britt powers Hornets; Smith directs LS girls

Seth Britt shot the lights out Friday night in leading the hostLoyd Star Hornets to a 68-37 win over the St. Aloysius Flashes ofVicksburg. Britt led with a game-high 22 points, including five3-pointers; pulled down eight rebounds and made four steals.
In the girls game, Beth Smith led Loyd Star with 14 points ontheir way to a 54-22 win over St. Aloysius.
The Hornets (8-3) dominated the Flashes in thefirst quarter to go up 24-7. At halftime, Loyd Star pushed its leadto 38-18.
“We played a really good first half,” said Loyd Star boys coachGene (Moochie) Britt. “Seth Britt had one of his best games.”
Adding support to the Loyd Star win with 11 points, 11 reboundsand eight assists was Jared Britt. Jamie Johnson followed with 10points and 10 rebounds. Sidney Chester had five assists.
Matt Horn netted 13 points for St. Aloysius.
In girls action, Loyd Star (6-5) held a 14-12 lead overSt. Aloysius at the half. In the second half action, the LadyHornets exploded for a 40-10 run to secure the win.
“We played much better in the second half than the firsthalf,” said Loyd Star girls coach Lori Britt.
Loyd Star’s Jamakia Henderson scored 12 points,collected eight rebounds, made three steals and had two assists.Sharon Johnson followed with 10 points, nine rebounds and threesteals. Finishing with six rebounds and two steals was AshtonWilliams.
Leslie Dyess had six points for St.Aloysius.
Junior high game
In boys action, Loyd Star crushed St. Aloysius 49-22.Brent Fells pumped in 18 points followed by Tyler Williford with 14points for the 9-2 Hornets.
Matt Tolby led St. Aloysius with eightpoints.
Loyd Star hosts Natchez Cathedral Tuesday for two games.The girls begin play at 6 p.m.
