The Rev. Tim Posey was at his home on Freedom Loop just a fewminutes before 9 a.m. when a tree landed on the corner of hishouse.

“I could tell the wind was really getting bad and then the treejust crashed through the house,” said Posey, who was not injured inthe incident.

His neighbors, like a number of others throughout the county, have been very helpful in the cleanup effort.

On Field Lark Lane, Charles Gerald was surveying damage after anapproximately 112-year-old tree fell and hit the corner of the homehe has lived in for about 10 years. He was going to have limbscleared from around the home Tuesday before getting the rooffixed.

“It could have been a lot worse,” Gerald said, adding that theangle of the tree fall helped the home avoid further damage.

Galey was meeting with the Lincoln County Board of SupervisorsTuesday morning to discuss damages and clean up efforts, whichappeared to be going well.

“I think we’ve pretty much got all the roads open,” saidGaley.

County work crews and volunteer firefighters stayed at a busypace for most of the morning Monday and even on into the afternoonto clear trees out of roadways.

Law enforcement officers worked diligently to steer traffic awayfrom problem areas, such as roads closed by trees down or livepower lines.

“We had trees down everywhere, but it was mainly in thesouthwest corner of the county,” said Galey.

The downed trees caused a number of power outages, according topower company officials.

“At the worst part of the storm, we had about 5,000 customerswithout power in the Brookhaven and Lincoln County area. We wereable to get some help from other areas and get all the power backon by 10 p.m.,” said Jim Hedges, customer service manager atEntergy.

Other power companies reported similar results with crewsworking into the night to bring electricity back to Lincoln Countyresidents.

Although damage from the storms was widespread, no injuries hadbeen reported as of early Tuesday, said Galey, who was thankful noone was hurt.
