Loyd Star boys, West Lincoln girls register victories

Loyd Star senior guard Jared Britt fired in a game-high 24points to lead the host Hornets to a 75-54 win over the WestLincoln Bears Tuesday night. Britt also grabbed seven rebounds,made four steals and had three assists.
Loyd Star hosts Division 6-2A power Hinds AHS Friday for twovarsity game. The girls kick off at 6 p.m. followed by theboys.
West Lincoln hosts Enterprise Friday night for a Division 7-1Avarsity doubleheader.
In varsity girls action, West Lincoln junior center AliciaKennedy directed the Lady Bears with a game-high 23 points on theirway to a 69-41 victory over the Lady Hornets.
The Hornets (15-4, 3-3) enjoyed a 10-point,22-12, lead over West Lincoln (8-9, 5-1) at the end of the firstquarter. At halftime, the Hornet s led the Bears by 14 points,41-27.
“I thought the kids shot the ball well,” said Loyd Star boyscoach Gene “Moochie” Britt after the win. “We got ahead andcouldn’t put them away.”
West Lincoln came back in the third quarter with a 15-13 run tocut the deficit to 12 points, 54-42, going into the final frame.The Hornets couldn’t be stopped and outscored the Bears 21-11 tosecure the win.
Coach Britt complemented his bench, including Kordae Otis, RandyFells and Dewayne Branning. Otis finished with 11 points, including3 three-pointers. “Fells and Branning did well for my post people.We want to keep getting better.”
Adding support to the Hornet win with 12 points, four steals andthree assists was Tyler Williford. Sidney Chester netted 11 points,collected four rebounds and had three assists.
Directing West Lincoln with 17 points was junior guard TylerSmith. Brooks Smith pumped in 15 points, including four 3-pointers.Shane Lynch finished with 10 points.
The Lady Bears (13-4, 6-0) took advantage ofthe cold-shooting Lady Hornets (10-8, 3-3) for a 16-5 lead in thefirst quarter. A 24-14 run by West Lincoln put the visitors incharge 34-17 at halftime.
“We attacked their zone real good,” said West Lincoln coach LaneYoung. “We made some outside shots. Our defense was pretty good. Weneed to cut down on our fouling.”
Following Kennedy in scoring for West Lincoln was Britnee Smithwith 12 points.
“We got behind early,” said Loyd Star girls coach Lori Britt.”We couldn’t make our free throws and catch up.” The Lady Hornetswere 9 for 25 from the charity line.
Junior forward Shara Johnson paced Loyd Star with 16 points, 11rebounds, two steals and three assists. Jordan Britt netted 10points. Hailey Ratcliff grabbed five rebounds and made twosteals.
Junior high results
The 5-4 Loyd Star girls knocked off West Lincoln 30-24. DakotaBrooks fired in 10 points for the Lady Hornets.
Kayla Moak led West Lincoln with nine points.
The Hornets crushed the Bears 33-14 in junior high boys action.Drew Case paced Loyd Star with 21 points.
Aaron Ayers had six points for West Lincoln.
