Panthers in roaring romp; BC girls hold off BHS

BOGUE CHITTO – Twin sisters Teareon and Tesheon Rogers combinedfor 33 points and 26 rebounds Tuesday night, sparking BogueChitto’s Lady Cats to a 64-59 win against the Brookhaven LadyPanthers in R.L. “Bob” Calhoun Gymnasium. Teareon and Tesheon, both5-9 senior post players, scored 19 and 14 pointsrespectively.

In the varsity boys game, Brookhaven overpowered the Bobcats 82-55as guard Keith Johnson sacked 14 points and center Fred Fairmannetted 12.

Region action concerns both teams the rest of the week as BogueChitto hosts MSD Thursday night in Class 1A action and BHS hostsForest Hill Friday night for a 5A twinbill.

The Lady Cats (14-1) overcame foul trouble and a sluggish secondhalf to turn back BHS after leading 42-30 at halftime. Guards JosiePorter and Bradi Davis both fouled out in the fourth quarter.

Ole Brook (5-10), coached by Freda Craft, had 3 starters foul outin the fast-paced, physical contest. Guard Precious Patterson pacedthe Lady Panthers with 16 points and Tiakara Kelly added 11.

“Offensively, we played well the first half,” said BC coach ChristiTerrell. “We scored 21 points in the first and second quarters butonly 22 the second half. I think the Christmas break got us out ofshape and we got tired the second half.”

The Lady Panthers pulled within one point, 47-46, on ShareekaHill’s short jumper with 7:35 left to play but they came no closer.Teareon Rogers sank a short shot and cat-quick guard Aneisha Dillonnetted a baseline jumper for a 51-46 lead. Dillon finished with 14points as BC overcame 25 turnovers.

Porter dished out 7 assists before fouling out with 7:02 left inthe game. Darcy Miller and Ashley Bickham each grabbed 8 reboundsfor BC.

Audora Hill had 8 rebounds for BHS before fouling out with 3:12left to play.

The Panthers (13-3) displayed superior depth, speed and size asthey dismantled the Bobcats. They led 50-28 at halftime as Johnsonsacked all 14 of his points. He also had 8 rebounds and 3steals.

“We got into our fastbreak more tonight,” said BHS boss PrestonWilson. “I’m not happy with our defense. We need to work more onthat.”

Fourteen of Wilson’s players put points on the scoreboard. Theyroared to a 63-38 lead entering the fourth quarter. Fairman snared9 rebounds.

The Bobcats (10-5), coached by Jeremy Harrell, couldn’t handleBrook’s offense. They were minus the services of 6-7 senior centerColby Johnson much of the game due to leg cramps. Johnson finishedwith 8 points.

They Bobcats got 16 points from Germie Martin and 13 from MichaelHarris. They also missed two dunks while BHS rammed several throughthe hoop, delighting the large crowd.

In the JV game, BHS posted a 27-19 victory, led by Orlando Barneswith 9 points and Jermie Wilson with 5.

Darius Martin’s 10 points led the Bobcats.
