Mildred Edith Emanuel Davis

Services for Mildred Edith Emanuel Davis of Lorman are 10 a.m.,Saturday, Oct. 11, at Cane Ridge Methodist Church with burial inthe church cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 4-8 p.m., at Glenwood Funeral Home inPort Gibson, and Saturday from 9-10 a.m., at the church.

Mrs. Davis, 90, died Oct. 8, 2003, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter.

She was a native of Jefferson County. She attended Bean Schooland Lorman School, and was a high school graduate of Hinds JuniorCollege. She married Edward Davis on Oct. 17, 1937, in theparsonage of Cane Ridge Methodist Church, where they met. She was alifelong member of the church, and was a 50-year member of theFayette Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She first servedas its Worthy Matron in 1959. She served as Mississippi’s GrandRepresentative to the state of Ohio, and in 2001 was honored asMississippi’s Grand Grandmother. She and her husband ran the DavisFamily Farm near Red Lick. She enjoyed cooking for many and caringfor the sick.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Samuel and ClaraEmanuel; her husband; seven siblings; and a son, Samuel EdwardDavis.

Survivors are her daughter, Carolyn Sue Smith of Ponca City,Okla.; her son, Lynn Charles Davis of Brookhaven; her sister, DorisHarwell of Brookhaven; her daughter-in-law, Christine Holland Davisof Brookhaven; her grandchildren and their spouses, Jarvis EdwardDavis and Julie of Orlando, Fla., Julian Patrick Davis, Debra KayDavis Jackson and Dane, and Marty Steven Davis and Mary, all ofBrookhaven, Donna Lynn Davis Marshall and James of Brandon, EdwardCollins and Karoline of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Carrie ElizabethCollins of Ponca City, Okla.; her great-grandchildren, Laurel,Marybeth, Adam, Lynn, Will, Katie, Garrett, Collin, Brittany,Leslie, Ben and Luke.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Johnnie Celestine Dixon

Services for Johnnie Celestine Dixon of Brookhaven are 2 p.m.,Monday, Oct. 13, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church on the Riverwith burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation is Sunday from noon – 6 p.m., with wake from 6-7p.m., at Williams Mortuary.

Miss Dixon, 54, died Oct. 7, 2003, at her residence. She wasborn in Weed, Calif., on Aug. 8, 1949, to John Dixon Sr. and MamieOla Dixon.

She was disabled, and was a member of St. Paul MissionaryBaptist Church on the River.

Preceding her in death were her mother and a sister, Sandra KayDixon.

Survivors are her father and stepmother, John Dixon Sr. andGertha of Caseyville; her daughter, Ayisha R. Dixon of Brookhaven;her sisters, Lou E. Bowman of Brookhaven, Janice Dixon and LindaDixon, both of Sacramento, Calif., Valerie Mercial of Los Angeles,Calif., Bobbie Nell Dixon of Layton, Utah, Maxine Bradford ofOroville, Calif., and Kala Dixon of Caseyville; her brothers, JohnDixon Jr. of Ione, Calif., David Dixon of Haywood, Calif., andRobert Dixon of Los Angeles; two grandchildren; and many nieces,nephews and other relatives.

Lucy “Lady Girl” Harris

Mrs. Harris, 100, died Oct. 8, 2003, at Haven Hall Nursing Home.She was born in Lincoln County on Jan. 29, 1903, to Wallace Harrisand Lucy Harris.

She was retired, and was a member of Friendship MissionaryBaptist Church.

Preceding her in death were parents; her daughter, RobertaSmith; her son, Robert Butler; her sisters, Niecee Jackson, MamieColeman and Luella Black; her brothers, Herman Harris, the Rev.Versie Harris, Russell Harris and Archie Harris; and hergrandchildren, William Herbert “Jay” Smith and Alleen Smith.

Survivors are her grandchildren, Evelyn Smith of Brookhaven,James Earl Smith of Hudson, N.Y., Julius Pearl Smith of Beacon,N.Y., Prentiss Smith of Chicago, Ill., Bennie Lee Smith of Slidell,La., Helen Givens of Monroe, La., and Dorothy Brown, Kaye FrancesButler, Shirley Butler and Robert Butler Jr., all of Detroit,Mich.; 34 great-grandchildren; and 31great-great-grandchildren.

Vivian L. Neal

Services for Vivian L. Neal of Winnsboro, La. are 2 p.m.,Saturday, Oct. 11, at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with burial inNeal Smithie Cemetery.

Mrs. Neal, 101, died Oct. 8, 2003, at Franklin Medical Center.She was born in Pike County on Jan. 9, 1902.

She was a homemaker, and a member of Powells Grove UnitedPentecostal Church.

Preceding her in death were her husband, two sons, one daughterand a host of nieces and nephews.

Survivors are her daughter, Hazel E. Lambert of Winnsboro, La.;14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 30great-great-grandchildren.

Master Sgt. Melvyn P. Pepper

Memorial services for Master Sgt. Melvyn P. Pepper of Lake City,Fla. are 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 11, at Biggs Funeral Home MemorialChapel with full military honors following.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturdayfrom 1-2 p.m.

Master Sgt. Pepper, 58, died Oct. 7, 2003, at his residencefollowing a brief illness. He was born in London, England on Oct.29, 1944.

He was retired from the Air Force with 21 years service. Heserved in the Vietnam theatre and was a quality supervisor and B-52Bomber line chief. After his military retirement, he worked withthe Florida Department of Corrections at Baker CorrectionalFacility for 12 years. He also worked as an independent truckdriver for Hadley Trucking Company. He was an avid pilot, owningand flying his own Cessna 150 airplane. He was a member of theBaptist faith.

Preceding him in death were his father, Powell Pepper; abrother, Danny Sam Pepper; and an uncle, Hosea Nettles.

Survivors are his mother and stepfather, Helen and Luke Cagle ofJackson; his wife of 26 years, Donna Pepper of Lake City, Fla.; hisdaughter, Sylvia Feagle of Lake City; his son, Keith Pepper of LakeCity; his stepdaughter, Tamara Law of Wellborn, Fla.; his stepson,Thomas Metzger, stationed on USS Germantown in the Persian Gulf;his sisters, Debbie Brown of Raceland, La., and Carol Bacot ofMcComb; his aunt, Margie Nettles of Brookhaven; eightgrandchildren; and numerous relatives in England andMississippi.
